There are many terms used when referring to immigrant communities and it is essential to have shared definitions across sectors. Explore these commonly used terms in schools and organizations for immigrant students and multilingual learners. The first section “Academic Groups” are terms commonly used in schools, and the second section “Legal Status” are terms used specifically to refer to someone’s immigration status. These terms may overlap for students.
